Obituary from The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Oklahoma dated Thursday, January 10, 1929:

Ellene Hartpence, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hartpence, Sayre, Oklahoma, was born March 14, 1922. The angels called her to them December 21st, 1928.

Ellene was a happy, joyous child who danced her care free way along her short journey of life.

Besides her parents here she leaves to mourn her passing, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Martin of Mayfield, Oklahoma, and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Hartpence, Urbanette, Arkansas. Also two brothers, Wayne, aged nine and Eugene, aged one year. Life so brief a sojourn here but so happy. She was beloved alike by a host of relatives, her teacher, and all the children of her neighborhood. She was a brief student doing work in the advanced first grade under Mrs. DeShane.

This beautiful happy life has been transplanted from the earth garden to bloom anew in Heavenly fields. She was spared the flighting influence of grief and care. Let us think on Ellene as one of the happy band of children awaiting Mother's and Daddie's and the little brothers' coming to join her. Can we not see the beautiful "beckoning hands calling the dear ones to Heavenly lands"?

She is at rest and her loved ones and friends should shed tears not for her but for their own loss---to her all is gain.

"They are not dead, whom the Father has taken tenderly care for. Not lost of forsaken; Sweetly they rest, whom they rest, whom the morning shall waken".

Death Notice from The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Oklahoma, Thursday, December 27th, 1928:

Allene (sic), the little six years old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hartpence, died at the Tisdal hospital in Sayre Friday night after an illness of a week; she was operated on for appendicitis last Tuesday and pneumonia developed the next day. Her death was not expected. Interment was made in the Sayre Cemetery Sunday afternoon.
