He served as state senator from Franklin County from 1844 until his death in 1845 from typhoid fever.

After his death, a stonemason took a year to chisel out a space in the top of a large boulder. William Jeffreys was buried there and covered with a large stone slab.

Sacred to the Memory of William Andrew Jeffreys of Franklin County, Attorney At Law and Senator. Born Jan. 13, 1817, died Oct. 3, 1845.

He was a kind husband and parent, a loyal and honest man and a faithful public servant.
