Former Indiana State Official Dies In Arizona
CROWN POINT, Ind., Funeral services and burial are scheduled here for a former Republican secretary of state who was stricken while vacationing in Arizona and died of a breathing disorder.
Otto G. Fifield, 78, died in a Scottsdale, Ariz., hospital Monday. Fifield was elected Indiana secretary of state in 1928 and re-elected for one more term.
Fifield, of Crown Point, served two terms as Lake County treasurer and was GOP floor leader in the Indiana House. He lost a bid for the 1st District Republican congressional nomination in 1944.
Survivors include the widow, Mary, who was with Fifield when he died; three sons, Elwood, William and Otto all of Gary and a daughter, Mrs. Carol Travers of Richmond.
