Born Oct. 4, 1923 in Herrick Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Florence Roof Atwood. Lucille attended Towanda High School. On Nov. 12, 1941 she married Alton H. Isbell and assisted him in the operation of their dairy farm in Ulster Township for 57 years until their retirement.
Lucille was a member of the Luthers Mills United Methodist Church, the church choir and Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her children: Barbara Bailey and husband Russell Bailey of Towanda, Pa., Phyllis Otis and husband Gary Otis of Wyalusing RR 1, Pa., Janet Astare and husband Ed Astare of Monroeton, Pa., Sue Adams of Milan, Pa. and her friend Joe Regan, Richard Isbell and wife Mary Isbell of Ulster RR 2, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Clifford Isbell of Ulster RR 2, Pa., Alfred Isbell of Dushore, Pa.; sister-in-law Aileen Isbell of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her faithful canine companion Rudy.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Alton H. Isbell, on Feb. 18, 2008; her brother, George Atwood; son-in-law, Greg Adams; sisters-in-law, Blanche Sheridan, Elizabeth Finnerty, Bertha Isbell, Lois J. Isbell and Eleanor Isbell; and brothers-in-law, Floyd, James and Clarence Isbell.
The funeral service will be held AT 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. Interment will be in the Ulster Cemetery, Ulster, Pa. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Luthers Mills United Methodist Church, in care of Kathy Wolstenholme, RR 1, Box 277 B, Towanda, PA 18848; or to the Dialysis Unit of the Robert Packer Hospital, Guthrie Square, Sayre, PA 18840; or to the charity or organization of one's choice in Lucille's memory.
