Gifted as both a Painter and a Poet, his poem, "Remember The Maine," became the anthem of the Spanish American War. A native of Pennsylvania, he painted scenes and portraits in Kentucky for over 30 years before moving to New York, where he died in Brooklyn in 1916. He is buried next to the noted dramatics teacher William Thompson Price, near the grave of Daniel Boone.
