She was born June 29, 1870 in Somerville, N. Y., a daughter of James and Hattie Chaffee and was one of two children. Her brother, Charles Chaffee passed away in Watertown June 9, 1936.
She was married three times. On Nov. 2, 1890, she married Henry Jessup, YMCA worker in the Methodist Church in Lowell, MA. He died on June 8, 1893. They had one son, Henry.
On Nov. 3, 1896, she was married to Morris Ellis, Winthrop. They also had one son, Howard, and from that time on her son, Henry, was called Ellis like his brother. Morris Ellis died Jan. 4, 1899.
On Nov. 1, 1910 she married Philo Riggs, Winthrop, who died Feb. 8, 1920.
Survivors include two sons, Henry Ellis, Rome, and Howard Ellis, Winthrop; a grandson, Robert Ellis, Winthrop; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise Ellis, West Stockholm; a niece and nephew, Florence and Martin Garnsey of Watertown.
Interment will be made in Jenkins Neighborhood Cemetery.
