Ethel Worthington Riley, 93, of St. Simons Island, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Marshes Edge on St. Simons Island. Graveside rites will be held Monday, May 16th, 11:00 am at Christ Church, Frederica on Saint Simons Island.

Mrs. Riley was born in her family's winter home in Miami, FL, on February 21, 1918. During her father's lifetime she was tutored (North and South) in Baltimore's Calvert School System, summering in Asheville, NC and later in Greenwich, CT.

After moving to Washington, DC, she attended Holton Arms, National Cathedral and Potomac Schools, going on to boarding school at Ethel Walker in Simsbury, CT. She finished as a Piano Major at The Finch School in New York City.

She joined the Washington Junior League, transferring to the Omaha, NE League upon her marriage, where she also became a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and the Nebraska State Director for the Robert E. Lee Memorial Foundation, Inc. in Virginia until her re-marriage.

She had two sons, William James Coad III, deceased in 2010, and John Worthington Coad, deceased in 1990.

In 1959 she married Brig. General James Lawton Riley, USAF, and moved from Washington, DC to Denver, CO, where he became Commander of the USAF Records Center. They later moved to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, where he was a Tenant Commander of the Fourth Air Force Reserve Region until his retirement in 1965,

She moved to her Sea Island, GA home until deciding to enter Vicar's Landing in April of 1990, and then returned to St. Simons Island, Marshes Edge in 2006.

Mrs. Riley always loved riding, golf, shooting and reading, with a bit of writing and painting thrown in. She remained a member of the Sulgrave Club of Washington, DC, the Chevy Chase Club in Chevy Chase, MD, the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, GA, and the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.

Survivors include a niece, several nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
