Blind, Nancy was third daughter of unmarried Shuby Twitty. She moved to Illlinois with her family in 1837. Along with her two sisters, she was fostered to neighbor and widower, Lt. Gov. Stinson H. Anderson when both her mother and grandmother, Sarah Mackey Twitty Bodine, died in 1846. She appears with the Stinson Anderson family in the 1850 Illinois census.

She worked as a domestic in the homes of her sister, Sarah Jane Ballard, and later her foster sister, Nebraska Anderson Wilbanks. She may have worked for others. She probably died in Mt. Vernon.

Her gravestone is nearly completely buried.
