"Jesse James Halley born September 1841 in Kanawha Co., West VA. He was the son of William W. Halley He was the husband of 1) Martha Ann Kolb, the daughter of Abel Kolb and Mary Elizabeth Williamson, whom he married May 6, 1872 in Union Parish and 2) Idella Maud Eiland whom he married in Webster Parish in July 8, 1880. By Martha he had one child, John D. "Dee" Halley. By Idella he had: Malina M., William N., Della M., Alexander Brice, Charley M., and Emma R. Jesse James Halley served in the civil war for the south, MO Infantry, 16th Regiment, CO. I; 4th Regiment, CO. C and I and the State Troops, Ranger's Brigade, Bowen's Battalion. Jesse and his brother, John Wesley Halley left Henry County, Missouri and migrated to Union Parish, Louisiana before 1870. Jesse was issued a homestead in Union Parish September 6, 1902."

After further research, J.J. Halley's Confederate pension application was found. It was dated August 12, 1907. In it he claims he was born on December 3rd, 1842 in the above county and state. He was not wounded but claimed his rheumatism was because of his service. He had been married before and had three boys and three girls, aged 33, 25, 18, 16, 11 and 9.

His veteran headstone application states he died October 15, 1912. His son Alexander Brice filled out the card.
