Terry R. Simmons, 46, of Iowa City died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, after multiple injuries incurred in a fall from an unknown height.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Graveside committal was held Sunday at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. In lieu of flowers the Terry Simmons Children's Fund c/o Hills Bank and Trust has been established.
Terry was born Feb. 6, 1965, in Waterloo. He was a graduate of East Buchanan High School and Hawkeye Technical College and attended Iowa State University, where he studied architectural engineering. On Feb. 20, 1988 Terry married Cheryl Close in Iowa City. Terry was a project manager with Ryan Companies, where he had worked for eight years and specialized in roofing. His most recent project was the Federal Courthouse in Cedar Rapids, where he was general contractor.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vernon Ray Simmons of Winterset; his grandmother, Betty Simmons of Waterloo; and an infant daughter, Christina Sue Ann.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl and their four sons, Calvin, Jacob, Timmy and Joe, all of Iowa City; his father Thomas Vernon Simmons of Winterset; his mother Alice Moeller of Dunkerton; his sister, Wanda Halverson of Iowa City; his in-laws, Paul and Susan Close of Iowa City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
