Karen S. Sommers, 53
A lifelong resident of Wells County, Karen S. Sommers, 53, died Sunday, July 4 at her rural Uniondale home.
She had been employed for 17 years with the Northern Wells Community Schools, most recently as the treasurer at Norwell High School.
She was an active participant in the Vera Bradley Breast Cancer Drive and in Cancer Society "Relay for Life" events both in Bluffton and in Indianapolis.
Born Jan. 26, 1951 in Wells County to E. Dale and Miriam G. Highland Hoopingarner, her marriage in Uniondale on June 26, 1971 was to Robert A. Sommers, who survives.
Also surviving are the parents in rural Uniondale, two sons, Shane R. Sommers of Avon and Scott R. Sommers of Fishers; two brothers, Kent R. Hoopingarner of Fort Wayne and Rick D. Hoopingarner of Bluffton, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Life Community Church in Bluffton with pastors Kent Ringger and Rick Fiechter officiating.
Burial will be in the Horeb Cemetery.
Calling will be at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Calling also for one hour at the church prior to the Friday service.
Preferred memorials are to the Vera Bradley Foundation, 2208 Production Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46808 or to Life Community Church, 428 South Oak St., Bluffton.
