Alma Norton was the daughter of Eli C. Norton and Mary Green Norton. She was born in Hinesburg, Vermont. She married Martin Scott Hopkins on February 28, 1839 in Copley, Ohio. She died in Alton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota on June 3, 1882 and is buried next to her husband in Peddler's Grove Cemetery.

They were the parents of 6 children all born in Summit County, Ohio with the exception of the youngest:
George Rudd, born December 27, 1840, died December 14, 1863
Mary Emeroy, born September 9, 1842
Helen Louisa, born January 30, 1844
Henry Martin, born November 15, 1845
Gertrude Araminta, born October 10, 1854
Sarah Estella, born August 9, 1857 in Pomona, Tennessee

When Alma was dying she smiled suddenly and her family asked if she saw "Pa". She smiled & nodded and was gone.
