Ruth J. Hunt was one of the pioneer women of the Cherokee Nation. She was the daughter of Ellis Sanders Harlan and Nannie (Barnett) Harlan, who settled in Flint district before the War.
Ruth J. marries Joseph H. Hunt and moved to Delaware district shortly after the late Civil War where they lived until their death. The Hunts raised a fine family of children. Joseph Hunt, Jr. served two terms as postmaster of Vinita, and Charles J. Hunt was appointed by the President to act as Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation at one time. The Hunts lived in Vinita at the time of their death.
