OCEAN SPRINGS --- Mr. Jesse M. Mapes, 89, died Wednesday, September 26, 2001, in Ocean Springs, MS.
Mr. Mapes was born in Waterville, Kansas and was a resident of the coast since 1965. He retired as a pipefitter from Ingalls Shipbuilding. He was a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther G. Mapes; parents, Arthur and Fannie Mapes; a brother, Marvin Mapes; and a grandson, Jeffrey Mapes.
Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Blevins of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mary Mehlhaus of Dysart, Iowa; two sons, Milton J. Mapes of Biloxi, Ronald D. Mapes of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; two sisters, Dorothy Scheele of Beatrice, Nebraska, Marjorie Nevitt of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel with burial in Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to Belle Fountain Baptist Church, 7900 Fountainbleu Road, Ocean Springs, MS 39564 or one's favorite charity.
