BRECKENRIDGE -- Pat Bjerken, 49, of Breckenridge, Minn., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at her home surrounded by her loving family, following 13 years of courageously battling cancer. The funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Breckenridge with Pastor Terry Tilton officiating. Burial will be held later this spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd, Minn. Pallbearers will be the Breckenridge Rotary Club. Honorary pallbearers will be all who called Pat "friend." Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 15 from 5-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Patricia Ann Palmer was born Sept. 6, 1954, to Harold and Darlene (Langlois) Palmer at Caledonia, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Ironwood, Mich. During the 8th grade, Pat moved with her family to Brainerd, Minn. She attended school in Brainerd, graduating from Brainerd High School in 1972. During her high school years she enjoyed playing volleyball and continued playing volleyball for Brainerd Community College while she continued her education there. On March 15, 1977, Pat married Jerry Bjerken. They had met at St. John's Hospital in Fargo, N.D., where they were both employed. The couple made their home in Fargo. Pat kept busy working at St. John's, attending classes at NDSU, bowling, golfing and playing softball, later becoming a mother to her three sons. All of which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Pat and Jerry and their family moved to Breckenridge, Minn., in 1992. Pat then became employed at St. Francis Medical Center in the admissions department. She also worked at various other positions in the hospital. She and Jerry enjoyed going to auctions. Antiques and collectibles had always interested Pat. Using her knowledge of the "old" along with her knack for computers, she created her own business buying and selling antiques over the Internet. She called her antique dealer business, "Pat's Timeless Treasures," and operated this business out of her home in Breckenridge. Pat also loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, camping and flower gardening. She cherished the camping trip she took with Jerry and her boys to the Black Hills in South Dakota, and fishing with her family on Sylvan Lake near Brainerd. She had always kept in contact with her good friends from Ironwood, and loved attending their class reunions in Michigan. Pat was also happy to be able to join her parents for two visits to Florida in the winter.

Pat was a member of the United Methodist Church, Breckenridge, Minn., and the Breckenridge Rotary Club, where she was a past president. She had also been an active member of the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Women of Today.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Bjerken; and three sons, Michael, Steven and Robert, all at home in Breckenridge; her stepdaughter, Roxanne (Gorham) Blaine of Oregon; her parents, Darlene and Harold Palmer, Brainerd, Minn.; her sister, Betsy (Eric) Krause, Maple Grove, Minn.; her brother, Michael (Maureen) Palmer, Vallejo, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
