Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Hobart Albert Picard, 95, of Montgomery, passed away on June 22, 2010.

Born in Keowayden, Pa., he was the only child of Matthew and Ida (Guenot) Picard. He grew up on a farm and attended a one room schoolhouse in Frenchville, Pa. Being an excellent student, he won a scholarship to Penn State at State College and earned a B.S. in civil engineering.

After college he entered the Army during World War II and served in the Army Corps of Engineers, providing technical weather information for military actions. He was stationed in Hawaii after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Later, he visited Philadelphia and met an Army friend's sister, Helen Binder. It was love at first sight. The couple was married in State College in 1944.

Hobart was later deployed to England and France. While overseas, his first son, Richard was born. After he returned, Helen and Hobart lived in Trevose, Pa. and had two more children, Edward and Joyce.

He was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. as a safety engineer. In 1955 he was transferred and moved to Waldwick, N.J. Hobart commuted to NYC, working as a safety engineer on skyscrapers such as the Pan Am building.

In 1957, Helen and Hobart had another daughter, Nancy. Hobart was a family man, an avid reader, enjoyed working on his home and cars (especially his Studebakers) and always kept a large vegetable garden.

Retiring from Liberty Mutual in 1977 after 20 years, the couple decided to move back to Pa. They settled in Montgomery in 1980.

In retirement, Hobart enjoyed hunting, joined the American Legion and continued his former interests. Holiday celebrations were often held at the couple's home where the family still gathers. Hobart was a loving father and husband with a quiet strength, a quick wit and a sharp sense of humor. He was happiest at home with his family.

Hobart is survived by his dear wife of 66 years, Helen (Binder).

He is also survived by four children, Richard Picard and his wife Colleen of Elko, Minn.; Edward Picard and his wife Adele of Andover, N.J.; Joyce Picard-Busse and her husband George of Waynesboro, Pa.; and Nancy Picard of Hackensack, N.J. Grandchildren are Michele Picard, Eric Picard, Ronald Picard, Greg Picard, Amy Mewborn, Matt Busse and Garrett Busse.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 28, at Grenoble's, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCreary, pastor of the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
