COVINTREE, George E., MD On December 16, 2008, of Haddonfield, NJ. Age 95 years. Beloved husband of the late Laura Claye (nee-Fraley) Covintree. They celebrated 56 years of marriage. Loving father of George E., Jr. (Winifred) of Berkley, MI, David E. (Joan) of Summit, NJ, and Ruth A. Covintree of Haddonfield, NJ. Adored grandfather of Lars, Katherine, William, Julia, Elizabeth and great-grandfather of Emilija and Braeden. Beloved brother of Christine Fink of Haddonfield, NJ and the late Margaret Seaman. Dr. Covintree was a graduate of Collingswood HS (1930), Temple University (1935) and Hahnemann University (1941). During the Great Depression, he worked at Campbell's Soup Company. He served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corp in WWII in the Pacific Theater (1942-1946). After the war, he attained Board Certification in Anesthesia and became an instructor of anesthesiology at Hahnemann Medical College. He practiced anesthesiology for over 40 years at West Jersey Hospital facilities, becoming Chief of Anesthesia, serving in this position 1958-1978. He was the founder of The Annual NJ Postgraduate Anesthesia Seminar receiving the Distinguished Service Award in 1981. Dr. Covintree was a Fellow of the American College of Anesthesio-logists, a member of the AMA, the ASA, the Medical Society of NJ, and the NJ State Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Covintree joined the First United Methodist Church in Collingswood, NJ in 1921. He supported missionary work, volunteering in an Alaskan hospital. He was a lifelong member and teacher of Bible Study classes. George Covintree's life and work were inspired by his profound faith. He was a member of the Collingswood Breakfast Club. He was an avid gardener, expert at growing roses. He was a model train enthusiast and he loved to travel, he had visited all 50 states. He could repair anything, he was frequently occupied fixing electrical circuits and mending fences. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday Evening 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave. (at Lees Ave.), Collingswood, NJ and Tuesday 9:00 to 10:00AM at the First United Methodist Church, Park & Dayton Aves., Collingswood, NJ 08108. Funeral service will follow Tuesday 10:00 AM at the church. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the church at the above address and/or the Collingswood Manor, 460 Haddon Ave. Collingswood, NJ 08108.
