son of John Turton Goff was born ca. 21 July 1762, probably in Maryland or perhaps in Virginia. James Carrico Goff was well educated for the time. In 1790 he witnessed, and probably wrote, a promissory note from his uncle James Goff to Hezekiah Frazer, signing his name as Jas. C Goff....

James Carrico Goff married (1) probably Maria Elizabeth Barnhouse by 1792. He married (2) Elizabeth Howell 17 Nov 1798 in Randolph County, Va. Elizabeth was a daughter of William Howell and his first wife, Eleanor Gilmore....Elizabeth Howell was born ca. August 1781 in Virginia.

James Carrico Goff moved to Harrison (later Lewis) County, Va. in 1816. He moved to Meigs County, Ohio ca. 1832, when he bought 80 acres of land in that county....both James C. and Elizabeth are buried in Temple U. M. Church Cemetery, near Carpenter, Meigs County, Ohio.
