Ruth was born to parents Charles Herman Hanson and Lucretia Jane Smith. She the first of five children born to the couple. Her siblings that followed were Anna Ione, Ella Lois, Carl Ellis and Lucile Mae.

Ruth was first married to Omer Gray and they had Constance 'Connie' Marie Gray who was born December 21, 1921. Ruth married Harvey Taylor on July 07, 1926 and they had three children; Gerald Allen, Beverly Jane, and Helen Shirley. The family lived in a number of places in the Pacific Northwest and finally settled in Glide, Oregon.

Ruth became a young widow when Harvey died in 1957. Eventually she lived in Caldwell, Idaho with her son Jerry Taylor and was also in a nursing home there for a number of years. When Jerry and his family moved to Post Falls, Idaho they brought Ruth along. Her daughter Helen ended up in Coeur d'Alene in 1975 having moved there from Denver, Colorado. She is greatly missed.
