Death of Birney Wise
The death of one of Seward's pioneer citizens occurred at his home in Seward on last Thursday after many weeks of severe suffering.
His funeral was held on Saturday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Bert Storey, pastor of the Methodist church, from the home.
Birney Solomon Wise was born at Farmington, Mich., Dec. 3, 1846, and died at his home in Seward, Oct. 21, 1915.
He was united in marriage at Freeport Ill., July 14, 1875, to Miss Ida Green, of Davis, Ill. To this union were born two sons, Victor Ward of Lodge Pole, Nebraska, and Guy Everette of Wichita, Kansas.
After their marriage they came to Seward county, Nebraska, locating on a farm nine miles southeast of Seward where he spent the larger part of his life except the past seven years. Mr. Wise was one of early residents of I Precinct and was well and favorably known among a large circle of friends.
He had been failing in health the past year. Three months ago he was confined to his bed which he kept to the end. Mr. Wise was of a sunny, cheerful disposition which trait remained with him to the last, though he suffered much during the last weeks.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons, and one brother and sister, both of Davis, Ill., besides eight grandchildren, all being present at the funeral except Miss Ann Wise of Davis Ill., who was confined to her home on account of illness.
The deceased had been a member of A.O.U.W. for over thirty-one years. The following nephews of Mr. Wise acted as pall bearers: Ed. and Basil Green, Langdon and Willie Green, Clifton McGrew and Mr Hall.
