Henry Fred Rohlfing passed away at the age of 82 on Dec. 22, 2008. He was born April 22, 1926, to Louis and Hattie Rohlfing in Gerald, Mo., the second of three sons.

At the age of 5, he moved with his family to Idaho where they settled in New Plymouth. On the way, they passed fields full of sunflowers, which he remained fond of the rest of his life.

The family moved briefly to McMinnville, Ore., where they ran a feed store, but returned shortly after to the farm in New Plymouth. As was the custom for many families at the time, Henry quit school after the eighth grade to start working full time.

Henry moved to Caldwell where met the love of his life, Helen Willmorth. They were married six months later on Aug. 2, 1946, and they remained married for over 60 years, until Helen's death earlier this year. They had three children and Henry was a devoted father to Bill, Sharyl and Brenda.

Henry and Helen lived in the Caldwell area until eventually returning to New Plymouth. He spent many years farming, a profession he loved. On one of the coldest days on record in December in 1972, he sold at auction the best grade level Holstein herd with some registered stock in the valley.

Henry held several jobs throughout the years, and was the owner of Liquid Feeds, a livestock food supplement business, for several years. He enjoyed traveling to his customers throughout southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon.

Henry later went to work for Cal-Gas, delivering propane to many of the same customers.

After Henry retired, he spent several years assisting Helen at the New Plymouth Senior Center where he delivered many Meals on Wheels and escorted seniors on outings. For their service to their community, Henry and Helen were awarded the New Plymouth Chamber of Commerce 2000 Citizens of the Year, and In August 2002 from Sage Community Resources The Roy Watson, Sr. Award for Voluntary Service.
Henry loved to dance. He and Helen attended many square dances and Henry was a willing partner at senior center dances.
Henry was fond of taking road trips and in particular, he loved to return to the Oregon coast on vacation.
For the past two years, Henry has been a resident at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley in Boise.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, and both brothers, Harold and Norman.

Henry will be greatly missed by his children and their spouses, Bill and Susan Rohlfing of Elk Grove, CA, Dennis and Sharyl Jackson of Boise, and Brenda Rohlfing of New Plymouth; his grandchildren, Kurt and Kyle Rohlfing of Elk Grove, Susan (Mike) Nugent, Kris Knighton, and step-grandchildren Lisa (Matt) May, Kelly (Pete) Parsley of Boise; and great grandchildren, J.J. and Michaela Nugent, Amy May, and Marley Knighton, all from Boise. He is also survived by several brother- and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and his cousins and their families in Missouri.

Henry was a member of the New Plymouth Congregational church.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
