A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Crowley for Ruth Atkinson Henry, 92, who died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 5:19 a.m. at Bethany M.H.S. Healthcare Center in Lafayette.

Mrs. Henry was a native of Ebenezer and lifelong resident of Crowley. She graduated from Crowley High School and then graduated with a nursing degree from Schumpert Regional Medical Center Nursing School in Shreveport. Mrs. Henry was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. A rosary will be recited Friday at 11:00 a.m. by Sister Justina Baker. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Henry is survived by three daughters, Louise H. Thibodeaux of Geismar, LA, Henrietta H. Schilling and her husband Jim of Lafayette, Rachel H. Bourgeois of Breaux Bridge; two sons, Dr. Robert Henry and his wife Billie of Lafayette, Paul Henry and his wife Elizabeth of Herndon, VA; one brother, John C. Atkinson of Ebenezer; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Sidney Robert Henry; five sisters and six brothers; her sons-in-law, Dr. Sidney Thibodeaux and Francis Bourgeois.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Bethany M. H. S. Healthcare Center for their compassionate and devoted care of Mrs. Henry during her stay at Bethany.

The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Notre Dame High School or Crowley Christian Care Center.
