Ruby D. Clay
(February 7, 1917 - May 13, 2013)

Ruby Dee Clay, age 96 of LaBelle, MO passed away, Monday evening, May 13, 2013 at the LaBelle Manor Care Center. Born February 7, 1917 near Taylor, MO she was a daughter of Arthur William"Doc" and Luella Hendreds Manley.

She was united in marriage with Otto S. "Toad" Clay on September 6, 1934 at Monticello, MO. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and eleven brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Ottie Lewis and husband, Roy of LaBelle, MO and Ruby Lynn Miller of Macomb, IL; six grandchildren, Rochelle Milsap and husband, Michael of Quincy, IL, Roy "Lee" Lewis Jr. and Ashley of Quincy, IL, Tylan Clay and Trista of Fairfield, IA, Brandon Clay of the Quad Cities, Anthony Lewis and wife Monica of Quincy, IL and Randall Lewis and wife Donyale of Houston, TX;

and, twelve great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters; Blanche Jones of Bronx, NY and Veta Mae Stewart of Fort Madison, IA, one brother-in-law, Granville Clay and wife, Francis of Quincy, IL, two sisters-in-law, Irene McGruder of LaBelle, MO and Golda Manley of Quincy, IL and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Clay was a long time resident of Lewis County, MO. She was employed at Prairie View Nursing Home near Lewistown, MO; in the laundry department, which she just thoroughly enjoyed. While residing in Quincy she worked through the Green Thumb Program. Ruby was an active member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in LaBelle.

She sang in the adult choir, played the piano for a short time, and was active in every area of the church. Ruby was an avid gardener blessed with a green thumb especially with flowers. She was excellent at baking; and was known for her rolls and pies, especially her lemon pies. Ruby had a love for life and was a very active woman who loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of the services at the Funeral Chapel. Pastor James Salter will officiate the services and burial will be in the LaBelle Cemetery at LaBelle, MO.
