Fire Captain Michael S. Cockrum
SAVANNAH - Fire Captain Michael S. Cockrum, (Retired), 58, of Savannah, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane Collins Cockrum; his father, Major James E. Cockrum, USMC; his mother, Annie Crosby McKenna.
Michael was a native of Savannah.
He worked for the Savannah Fire Department for many years.
In 1987, Michael went to work as a Federal Fire Fighter at Hunter Army Airfield and had attained the rank of Fire Captain.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Grimstead; step-father Charles McKenna, both of Savannah; a brother, James B. Cockrum of Sweetwater, TN; a sister, Margaret Cockrum Resch of Etowah, TN. Michael was blessed with three special grandchildren; Tommy, Forry and Christopher Sean Grimstead, all of Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday October 19, 2008, at Fairhaven Funeral Home.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made in Michael's name to Hospice Savannah, Inc., 1352 Eisenhower Dr., Savannah, Ga. 31406 or Fallen Heroes Firefighters Fund, 2003 National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P.O. Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
