Donald Andrew McPherson was the youngest son of Alexander McPherson and wife Lillian. Both Alexander and Lillian were born in Scotland. Alexander died on 1 Mar 1844 in Landcaster, Ontairo Canada and is buried in the Second Concession Cemetery in South Landcaster, Ontario, Canada. His tombstone reads: "In Memory of Alexander McPherson, A Native of Kinguissie, Badenoch, Invernesshire, Scotland, who departed this life March 1, 1844 at age 77"

Donald's parents had eight other children:
James, Mary, Murdock, John Allen, Elizabeth, Angus, Margaret, Alexander, Donald Andrew was the youngest born in 1844

According to the 1900 Census, Donald and his family arrived in the United States in 1867.

Donald took an educational interest in finance and eventually became the first Vice President of the "First Bank of the Black Hills", Deadwood, Lawrence, South Dakota.

Donald married Caroline (Carrie) Ricker, daughter of David M. Ricker and wife Margaret (Kirk).

Donald and Caroline had six children: Clerence De Lytton, Arthur Pitt, Malcom J., Donald Erskine, Edith Ariel and Kenneth Chancellor, who became a doctor

Caroline died in 1899 and is buried in Mt Moriah Cemetery along side her husband.
