Died age 64 at his home on a Friday night. He had been in ill health for several years. Buried March 27.

Charles married Rose McAuley on August 13, 1894 in Curtis Creek. They had three children: Charles/Carl L. b 1895, Nadine Claire m Roy Bates Elston 11/11/1920 in Sonora and Katharine L m Lester O. Kellogg 5/3/1916 in Soulsbyville.

Charles started as a young man in a position at the Black Oak mine as hoist engineer. He held the job for over thirty years, and only when the mine ceased to operate was the position closed to him, ending a long service of efficiency. He spent his life in Tuolumne CO and had many friends. The 1920 census lists Charles living in Tulare and being employed as a truck driver for a lumber company. His brother Hiram and a granddaughter, Lucile C. Kellogg, age 3 years 8 months, were also living with him and his family.

The Rev. B.W. Pearce officiated at the funeral held on a Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Burden Chapel.

He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose Dunton, and a son, Carl Dunton of Standard; two daughters, Mrs. H.R Scott of Pacific Grove and Mrs. R.B. Elston of Stockton; two brothers, and a sister, George and Walter Dunton and Mrs. Lucy Moore.
