The Haddam Clipper-Leader May 4, 1916

George Washington Edwards, eldest son of Nathan and Nancy Edwards was born in Circleville, Piquay county, Ohio July 1, 1832 and died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Albert Harvey at Haddam, Kansas, April 25, 1916, aged 83 years, 9 months and 24 days.

He was married to Martha Hickle in the year 1852 to which union three children were born all of whom preceded him in death. In February 1867 at new Richmond, Ind., he was again married to Martha Thorne-Parrish, his first wife dying some years before. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Albert Harvey Harvey and Mrs. Wm. Haworth, both of this city. Mrs. Edwards passed away in Haddam August 20, 1912.

Mr. Edwards was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in the 32nd Indiana Light Artillery in 1862.

He was a member of the United Brethren church, having united with that denomination in his youth. He was also a member in good standing of the Masonic and Eastern Star orders, having been a Master Mason for fifty years.

Mr. Edwards had been a resident of Haddam for about 36 years, having come here from Illinois in 1879. He was well known and highly respected as one of our most esteemed venerable citizens.

The funeral was conducetd at 2 o'clock, at the M. E. church, being in charge of the Masonic order, Rev. J. P. Snare delivering the funeral sermon. The body was laid to rest in the Haddam cemetery with Masonic honors.
