Morgan Rush born in 1840 was a farmer from Crabapple, Armstrongs Mills, Washington Township, Belmont County Ohio. In 1861, twenty one-year-old Morgan enlisted in the Union Army as a volunteer for three years’ service. He served in Company “E”, Second West Virginia Infantry, which in Apr 1863, became a mounted infantry. Dec 14, 1864, this regiment became the Fifth West Virginia Cavalry. It was then transferred and consolidated with the Sixth West Virginia Cavalry. Morgan Rush, Second West Virginia Infantry was wounded at the Second Battle of Bull Run August 29th, 1862, and again at Rocky Gap August 26th, 1863. In July 1865, orders were received for the Sixth West Virginia Calvary, in company with the 2nd Mass., the 14th Pa., and the 21st N.Y. to move to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Morgan joined the unit in Kansas that fall of 1865. Aug 24, 1865, he was serving in Colorado and the Dakota Territory. Morgan married Josephine B. Wilson born in 1841 in Bellaire, Ohio. In 1873, Morgan and Josephine were living in Oronogo, Missouri, and in 1876 in Galena, (then Short Creek) Kansas. Morgan was a prominent figure in the mining industry for many years. Morgan was Mayor of Galena, (two terms). Morgan was a member of Frank Blair Post No. 54 Galena and the A.O.U.W.

Three of Morgan’s brothers served in the Civil War. Brother Salathiel was mustered into service in the 63rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry November 24th, 1861. Brother John C. enlisted August 22, 1862 in the 52nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Brother Samuel C. enlisted in the 176th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in September of 1864.
