QUAPAW, Okla. — Vergie L. Fry, 78, rural Quapaw, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.

Mrs. Fry was born May 22, 1916, in Quapaw. She was a lifetime area resident.

She was a nurse’s aide, working for Baxter Memorial Hospital, Baxter Springs, Kan.

She was a member of First Assembly of God, Baxter Springs.

She married Jesse E. Fry on Feb. 5. 1931, at Columbus, Kan. He died Oct. 2, 1984.

Survivors include three sons, Jesse Fry Jr. and Freddie Fry, both of Baxter Springs, and Bob Fry, Joplin; three daughters, Eleanor Moncrief, Lowell, Kan., Barbara Dawson, Quapaw, and Linda Walkenshaw, Midland, Texas; five sisters, Erma Miller, Phoenix, Ariz., Nadine Laney, Imogene Chambers, and Wanda Giovango, all of Taft, Calif., and Ina Mae Adams, Peoria. Okla.; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Arrangement are pending with Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs.

Pallbearers will be Luthur Boyd, Lester King, Tom Daniels, Bob Wyatt, Howard Simmons and Randolph Commons.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral
chapel.
