Hattie Erdine Archdale, age 79, of Miles City, Montana passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2003 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care, due to complications of Alzheimer's disease and diabetes.

Hattie was born on February 16, 1924, at Westmore, Montana, to Frank E. and Edna Carrie(Peterson) Ayers. Her father was the Milwaukee Railroad depot agent at Westmore and later at Mildred. The family also farmed near Mildred. Hattie and her mother traveled many miles by train using their Milwaukee family pass. Hattie fondly remembered those as the days the trains ran on time and meals were served in style in the dining car.

Hattie attended elementary and secondary schools at Mildred, graduating in 1942. She was a cheerleader for the Mildred Antelope and represented Mildred at the state speech meet one year.

On November 14, 1942, Hattie married Jim Archdale at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Miles City. They farmed and ranched near Ismay and Mildred before moving to Miles City in 1950.

Hattie had worked as a desk clerk for a number of years at the Gilmore and Olive Hotels, and at various times as a tax assessor, census taker and store clerk. She was also a homemaker and took an active part in her children's church, school and Boy Scout activities. Her hobbies included painting, reading, playing the piano, genealogy research, and keeping up on current events. She loved visiting with people.

Her family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Holy Rosary Extended Care for their kind and loving care of Hattie the past five years.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her daughter Patricia Eleanor Erdine Archdale her half brothers Vern Ayers (1894-1972), her half sister Chloris Doris Sabins 1896-1991, and five brothers: Milton F (1912-1985), Newman C (1913-1992), Harvey C (1917-1984), Bernard L. (Pookey)(1915-1984), and Clarence (1918-1995)Ayers.

Hattie is survived by two sons, Lionel (Sandy) Archdale of Redmond, WA, and Mike (Ginny) Archdale of Wibaux, MT; a daughter, Gloria C. Archdale of Miles City, MT; four grandchildren, Lisa (Flavio) Ratazzi of Seattle, WY, and James, Brenda and Eric Archdale of Redmond, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
