Mrs. Anna Birum passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. H.R. Baker on Sunday, August 2nd having reached the age of 87 years and four months. She had made her home with Dr. and Mrs. Baker for the past 24 years.

Anna Victoria Ortt was born in Edwardsville, Illinois on April 4th 1849, and came to Minnesota with her parents at the age of ten years, the family making the trip up the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers by steamboat to St. Peter. They settled on a farm near St. Peter and lived there through the troubleous years of indian wars and uprisings. She was married on Oct. 13th, 1872 to Ener Birum, a veteran of the Civil War, and made their home at Redwood Falls for many years. Mr. Birum was killed in a railway accident in 1893.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Birum, who are: Herbert L. of Trenton, N.J.; Arthur A. of Saco, Mont.; Mrs. Millie Berkhimer and Mrs. H.R. Baker of Hayfield. Mrs. Birum came to Hayfield to make her home with her daughter in the fall of 1912.

She was for 45 years a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a charter member of the Southern____ Chapter of O.E.S. of Hayfield.

Mrs. Birum suffered a heart attack on April 17th and from that time until her death on August 2nd she was confined to her bed where she was tenderly cared for by her daughter.

Funeral services were conducted at the Baker home Thursday of last week. The body was taken to Redwood Falls to rest beside that of her husband.

Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Birum's faculties were keen and alert, and her interest in current events remained unabated. Her shrewd comment and wise and kindly advice will be missed by many in this village where she was universally beloved by all who really knew her.

The publishers of the Herald feel a deep sense of personal loss in the death of Mrs. Birum, who for years had honored us with her friendship, her wise counsel, and her moral support.
