MACON - Betty "Carolyn" McDaniel, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 8, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11A.M., Thursday at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Brad Marchman will officiate.

Carolyn was born July 11, 1936 to the late Edward A. and Ida Pearl Rogers in Reidsville, Georgia. She met Leonard J. McDaniel of Claxton while she was still in high school. After Leonard graduated high school, he joined the United States Air Force then returned to marry his high school sweetheart on November 20, 1955 at the Shiloh Methodist Church in Reidsville, Georgia. During their years in the Air Force, they were stationed in mainland Japan, Okinawa and the Philippines. While in Japan they lost a son, Scott Gregory McDaniel. They were stationed several times in Savannah before being stationed at Robins and then retiring in Macon.

Mrs. McDaniel worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base and then for the Army Corp of Engineers in Savannah. She was a homemaker and loved to cook for her family and friends collecting hundreds of cook books. She was an accomplished baker, making and decorating all kinds of cakes. She was a talented seamstress and made clothes for herself and her children. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. She learned the art of flowers arranging, making lovely arrangements for her home and alter flowers for the churches she attended during her time as a military wife. At the time of her death, she was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class, and regularly attended services until she was unable because of her illness.

Carolyn was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Leonard J. McDaniel and three children, Leonard "Jack" McDaniel, Jr. (Marleen), Thomas "Wayne" McDaniel and Karen Elizabeth Tootle (Mike); grandchildren, Scott, Shaun and Melissa McDaniel, Thomas McDaniel, and Justin Tootle and one great grandson, Hunter McDaniel; several nieces and nephews.
