Allice (that is how she signed her name) was the daughter of William Henry Harrison Cummings, a Union veteran of the U.S. Civil War, and Mary Campbell Taylor, whose father died in a Confederate prison camp in Tyler Texas. Allice was the third of eleven children growing up in Missouri. She married Nathan Alexander Jones in Putnam County, Missouri, 19 Nov 1891. They had five children in Unionville, then moved to Alva, Woods, Oklahoma, by 1910. They had three more children before moving to Compton, Los Angeles, California. By the 1950s, Allice lived primarily in Paradise, Butte, California, with her daughter Leeta and son-in-law Harvey Drake, although she visited her other children often. Her children, in birth order: Mavy Alvessa, William Marion, Wesley Pearl "Shorty", Icy Elizabeth, Leeta Verle, Alva Roscoe, N Arthur, and Artie Raymon (aka Raymond A). She was my great grandmother, and when I knew her she lived in Paradise. She had no teeth, having thrown her false teeth away because they hurt, and she could touch her chin to her nose, which was immensely entertaining to the children. I used to watch her iron everything, even her towels. She probably was very fastidious, because the photos of her children show them to be well turned out. She was eighty-nine years old when she died in Perris, Riverside county, California, while visiting her eldest daughter, Mavy McKinley.
