Platoon Sergeant Isaac Newton Hutchin fought in several campaigns throughout the war in the Pacific. He was in the Battle of the Bloody Ridge that took place September 12-14, 1942.

Hutchin was killed during the Battle of Iwo Jima in March 1945 while directing fire on enemy positions. His actions that day earned him the Silver Star.
