Ezekiel Cole was ordained in 1771 in the Separatist (now known as Congregational) Church in Sutton, Massachusetts. According to the church record and the book "The Colonial Clergy and Colonial Churches of New England," Cole was described as an "Indian Boy" who was baptized into the church in his early teens. He was noted for engaging in several theological battles with the Rev. Jonathan Edwards during the Great Awakening.
