James Fleming Chapman was born July 18, 1822 in Liberty County, Georgia, and died August 16, 1890 in Wayne County, Georgia. Grave just across Wayne County line from Thalman, Georgia. Her responsibilities would have been to help Ester with the household chores. Ester later dies and Ella stays and becomes the forth and last wife of James Fleming. If Ella was the mother of Alonzo (b. Jan 17, 1877), then she would have been 13 when married to James Fleming Chapman, forty years her senior. Ella and James had four children.

I don't know if you are still active or not, but, I've been doing some research on J.F. Chapman, Sr. and wanted to share with you what I have figured out.
I've seen so many trees online suggesting his 4th wife was Ella Gertrude Burney but no sources for her name.
However, in 1870 there is an 8 year old girl named C.E. Holcomb living in his home and then in 1880 he is married to Charlotte who is 18 years old.
Her son Don's social security claim has his mother listed as Ella Holcomb. Her son Alonzo has his mother listed as Eliza Hawkins, which, with a severe southern accent could be mistaken for Holcomb, but, personally, I think the 4th wife was Charlotte Ella Holcomb and not Ella Gertrude Burney.
Just a thought; my research will reflect his because there are absolutely no sources for Ella Gertrude Burney.
Sadly, it appears that James liked young girls because every one of his wives were teenagers (except his 3rd wife, Hester).
Also, does anyone have a source for his 2nd wife, Eliza Ann Burney's parents? Yes, she fits to be the girl who lived with William & Rachel (Hunter) Burney during the 1850 census, but I don't think she was their daughter.
They had a daughter named Elizabeth Ann Burney who was born about 1828, but, she married James Stafford in 1845 and is in the census with him up until 1860 and she is in the census until 1900.
The Eliza from the 1850 census with William & Rachel Burney doesn't appear to be their daughter, in my opinion. After all, why would they have 2 daughters with the same name?
