William was the son of Levi and Sophia [Badley] Hurst. On Feb 28,1818, in Circleville, Ohio, he married Sarah Alkire. (b. Aug 18, 1798 in Mercer county, Ky., Sarah was the daughter of Michael and Dorothy [Phebus] Alkire.) William and Sarah had eleven children.

William is buried in the Watson Farm Cemetery, Circleville, Ohio. (The cemetery is located in Jackson Township; South side of County road 17; .1 m East on County road-5.) Sarah never remarried. She died 31 years after William and is buried in Chili Cemetery, Miami county, Indiana.
