VERNE COWLES
Verne E. Cowls, 82, of 319 Doty St., died at 2:02 a.m. today, Nov. 14, 1980, at Care Center East.
He was born Nov. 3, 1898, in Fond du Lac County, a son of the late Charles and Carrie Billings Cowles. He married Pearl A. Summers on Sept. 7, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa.
Mr. Cowles served with the Navy in World War I. He was a farmer in the South Byron area for many years, moving to Fond d Lac in 1952.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. James (Alma) Grace of Milwaukee, Mrs. Robert (Karen) Petersen of Wausau and Mrs. Joseph (Maryruth) Burkart of Howards Grove; two sons, Verne E. Jr. of Milwaukee and Jeffery A. of Fond du Lac; 12 grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Vida Sampson and Miss Ruth Cowles both of South Byron.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev Anthony J. Farina will officiate, and burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Oakfield.
Visitation for Mr. Cowles will be after 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Candlish Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established in his name.
