Lucy was the youngest child born to John Willoughby Rogers and Eliza Maggie Cummins. She was married for many years to Walter Edgbert Simmons Sr. She was born in Knoxville TN and spent half her life living there, before moving with her husband to Kernersville NC. She loved the Kernersville area. She saw all 5 of her children graduate from East Forsyth High School. While the first 4 of her children were in school in Kernersville, she worked for the G & H Greenstamp store. After getting most of her children grown and out of high school, she went to work in the Kernersville area. She worked for a food vending company by which she obtained a job at Gilbarco in Greensboro, NC. Shortly after her divorce, she moved into Robinwood Manor in Kernersville where she enjoyed the last 10 or so years of her life.

She was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church for many of the years she spent in Kernersville. She believed in her Lord and His powers.

She was preceded in death by a son, Walter "Wally" Edgbert Simmons Jr in 1993. She left to mourn her passing 4 daughters, Vicky Simmons Dollarhite, Myra Simmons Cowan, Sherry E Simmons and Jill Simmons McAbee; two grandsons, Gary Dollarhite and John Simmons; two granddaughters, Karen Dollarhite and Brandy McAbee.

Mom was like all humans - not perfect - but she loved her kids and grandkids with all her heart. She was a good mother.

The last few years of her life were difficult. She often told me there were worse things than death. When she left us, she entered into peace.
