Muriel was the daughter of Glenn Oscar Grant and Ora Alice Kersey. She married Chester 'Jack' Ponsler at Vancouver, Washington, on July 5, 1920.

During the 1920s and 1930s, Muriel and Jack Ponsler were prominent in the social, civic and business life of Florence, Oregon, where Jack owned the J. C. Ponsler Ford dealership. Following Muriel's death in 1939, Jack Ponsler gave the Oregon State Parks bureau a two-acre parcel of real estate on the north end of coastal Lane County, Oregon, stipulating that it be dedicated as a memorial to Muriel. The Muriel O. Ponsler Memorial Wayside continues to offer motorists a refreshing stopover with a picnic area and lovely ocean views.
