A veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force, he was stationed in Deen Thorpe, England, and flew 31 missions over Europe as a tail gunner on a B-17. He was a charter member of W.N.C.U.S. Air Force Chapter #8. He retired from the V.A. Medical Center after 35 years of service. Elroy was a member of Swannanoa First Baptist Church and the Boethion Sunday School class. A Mason, he was a past master of Swannanoa Masonic Lodge #561.
He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ruby Daniels Edmonds; brother, Howard Edmonds (Eva Nell), of Swannanoa; sisters, Willie Mae Netherton, of Fayetteville, and Marie Creasman of Swannanoa; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Swannanoa First Baptist Church. The Revs. Steve Rayburn and Dan Snyder will officiate.
Burial with Masonic rites by the Swannanoa Masonic Lodge #561 will be at Piney Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.
