Mr. George Overton Kephart of Chiswell's Inheritance, Poolesville, MD departed this life on April 19, 2011 in the Great Smoky Mountains while celebrating the life of his grandfather, Horace Kephart.
Loving father of George O. Kephart, Jr., Elizabeth Perry Kapsch and Ann-Frazer Brown, all of Poolesville, devoted grandfather of Sarah Frazer Prestemon, Simon Alexander Brown and Amanda Greenberry Brown, father-in-law of Robert J. Kapsch and Patt Robertson, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, MaryAnn Griffith Kephart. He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Barbara Kephart Crane and Jane K. Keller, his brother-in-law, William B. Griffith, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Born to Leonard W. Kephart and Frances Frazer Kephart on February 16, 1920, he grew up in Takoma Park, graduated from Central High School and in 1941 from University of Maryland where he was business manager of the Old Line newspaper and member of Omicron Deta Kappa and Kappa Alpha. In World War II, he served in the U. S. Coast Guard as an air-sea rescue pilot. His career included years spent abroad in Japan and throughout the world as an investment banker and for the State Department. He owned the Potomac and Rockville Supply Co. He served his community as a Commissioner of M-NCPPC, Trustee on the Maryland Environmental Trust and the Montgomery County Historical Society Trust, Chair of Barnesville School, and recently as a director of the Mooseum and on the Montgomery Countryside Alliance Advisory Board. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish for over 50 years. He captained the Cabot-36 sailboat "Sarah Frazer" on voyages across the Atlantic and throughout the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Chesapeake.
Friends may call at the family farm, Chiswell's Inheritance, 18200 Beallsville Road, Poolesville, MD on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. A service of Christian Burial will be held at St Peter's Parish, 20100 Whites Ferry Rd, Poolesville on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 3 p.m. with interment to follow at Monocacy Cemetery, 19801 West Hunter Road, Beallsville, MD.

He served his community as a Commissioner of M-NCPPC, Trustee on the Maryland Environmental Trust and the Montgomery County Historical Society Trust, Chair of Barnesville School, and recently as a director of the Mooseum and on the Montgomery Countryside Alliance Advisory Board. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish for over 50 years. He captained the Cabot-36 sailboat "Sarah Frazer" on voyages across the Atlantic and throughout the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Chesapeake.
