Doris Rowland Collamer Servatius, age 96, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, formerly of Marcy, NY, passed away on February 8, 2004, at the home of her daughter, following a period of declining health.
She was the wife of the late William J. Servatius. Born in Milton, NY, on June 10, 1907, Doris was the daughter of Herbert and Emma Rowland Collamer. She was raised in a farmhouse in Saratoga County, attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Albany Business College. She worked for many years as a secretary in Albany.
On September 13, 1946, Doris married William J. Servatius of Utica and they lived for several years in Louisiana, where she worked for the Department of Welfare. After returning to the Utica area in 1950, Doris stayed at home for many years until 1964 when she returned to work as a Kelly girl. Several years later, she began working for Mele Manufacturing Company, and ended her working career as a partner in her husband's business, J. Servatius Sons' Wallpaper and Paint on Columbia Square in Utica. Doris enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, playing bingo, and an interest in antiques. For many years, she was a member of Maynard United Methodist Church. After relocating to Massachusetts, she attended the Bridgewater United Methodist Church.
Doris leaves one daughter, Mary Servatius O'Connell; and a grandson, Daniel O'Connell, both of Bridgewater, MA. She was predeceased by her husband in 2001; and by brother, Robert Collamer, and sister-in-law, Lillian Collamer. She leaves one sister-in-law, Ruth Servatius Stewart of Point Lookout, NY; and 12 nieces and nephews. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph's Mausoleum. Utica Observer Dispatch, February 11, 2004
