Miss Appler Dies After Illness of More Than Year
Miss Martha Appler, a native and life-long resident of this city, passed away at the Homeopathic Hospital at 11 o'clock this forenoon. Death was due to complications, arising from an ailment from which she had suffered for a year and a half. Her death will prove a sad shock to many people, for Miss Appler was an accomplished vocalist since childhood and was highly regarded by all who knew her.
Deceased was born in Utica, a daughter of Joseph and Martha Appler of Mandeville street, and her entire life was spent in the house on that street where she was born. At an early age, she entered St. Joseph's Parochial School, where she received her education.
As a girl, she began to display grace and ability as a singer and from that time on had been a member of the choir of St. Joseph's Church, which she regularly attended. Her voice was of a sweet, melodious nature and her singing was the cause of much favorable comment. In addition to her efforts in the choir, she sang with the Philharmonic Chorus and the Utica Maennerchor Society for many years. She also sang frequently at social gatherings of an informal nature.
