NASCHITTI — Funeral services for James "JJ" J. Johnson Sr., 76, will be 10 a.m., May 2, at Christian Reformed Church. Jerome Sandoval will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti.

Johnson died April 26, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Cudei, into the Red Running Into Water People Clan for the Folding Arms People Clan.

Johnson attended Intermountain Indian School from 1949-1954. He enlisted in the US Army from 1957-1959. He was employed at Intermountain Indian School from 1959-1982 and Shiprock Indian Hospital from 1982-1990. His hobbies included bowling, softball, watching pro-football the Arizona Cardinals, watching western movies and doing puzzles.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Jean Johnson of Naschitti; son, James Johnson Jr. of Ogden, Utah; daughters, Sharlene Johnson Antone of Ogden, Utah, Valerie Johnson of Naschitti; brother, Leo Johnson of Navajo; sisters, Irene Johnson, Marie Collins, Carolina Jim, all of Shiprock, Minnie Franklin, Betty Garna Nez both of Kirtland; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, John Johnson, Edith Johnson; wife, Ruby Wauneka-Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Ronald L. Johnson, Darrell M. Antone, Patrick R. Joe, Jonathan L. Joe, Matthew Jim, Darrell Yabeny.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Naschitti Chapter House, following services.
