Anne C. Fairchild, 90, Rockford, died at 2:29 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 in Provena St. Anne Center. Born June 12, 1920 in Chicago, daughter of Michael Charles and Anna Voss Zimmer. Graduated sixth in her class from Northwestern University in 1942 where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Omega sorority. Married James Fairchild in Chicago on February 13, 1943. He predeceased her. She married Lieutenant Colonel Edwin A. Lutz in Rockford on May 18, 1996. She was a member of Cathedral of St. Peter and had served as the vice president of Catholic Women's League. She began her career in research and development for AB Dick Co. She spent time raising her children and then returned to her profession as the personnel manager of Clifford Berg and Associates. She retired in 1976 after devoting 12 years as the executive director of the Rock River Valley Council of Girl Scouts.

Survivors include her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Lutz; children, Patricia Anne Evan, Michael James (Joan), Steven William (Sally) and Mark Joseph (Margaret) Fairchild; four grandchildren, and her sister, Eleanor Kay Kate. Predeceased by her parents, infant daughter, Veronica Martha; brothers, Charles and Edward Zimmer and son-in-law, John M. Evan.
