Thomson Farquhar (nickname 'Tab') was the son of Joseph Farquhar and Margaret (Archibald) Farquhar.

He married Edna Marie Gammie on October 26, 1932 in Elora, Wellington County, Ontario per the Ontario marriage record. No children.

The Kerr family operated a butcher shop in Elora, Ontario for more than 120 years beginning with Alexander Kerr (1840-1920) in 1870. The business was taken over by his son Alexander John Kerr (1874-1961) in 1920, and later by Alexander JR's son James Wallace Kerr, then by James's son Lorne Kerr. The name of the business changed over the years.

Thomson Farquhar's sister Isabel Farquhar was the second wife of Alexander John Kerr (1874-1961). Thomson worked at the butcher shop for brother-in-law Alexander John Kerr from about 1929 to 1945. Thomson was a business partner with James Wallace Kerr (known as 'Jim') from 1945 until Thomson retired in 1969. During those partnership years the business was called 'Kerr & Farquhar'.
