CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- John S. Allen, 79, of Potomac Park, Cumberland, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 20, 1920, in Corriganville, he was the son of the late Lawrence Allen and Irma (McCormick) Allen Hice. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Warren Hice.
Mr. Allen was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Pope John Council Knights of Columbus, Local 26 Kelly Retirement Club, Mount Savage Old Rail Post VFW, Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion, and the El Fidel Club.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Katherine (McGowan) Allen; two daughters, Celeste Joyce and husband Fred, Gaithersburg, and Mary Jane Neubeiser and husband Robert, Damascus; six grandchildren, James Joyce, Douglas Joyce, Michael Neubeiser, David Neubeiser, Kevin Neubeiser and Katie Neubeiser; and one brother, Charles Hice.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Reginald Russo, OFM, Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family requests that contributions be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church in memory of John S. Allen.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
