CAMPBELL
Services for Lyman J. Campbell, 89, 701 N. Alameda, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the West Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Dr. L.B. Trone, retired Methodist minister, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Rick Hardin, Terry Mullins, Polo Munoz, Frank Walters, Gene Sims, Jack Huser.
Campbell died Sunday in the local hospital.
He was born April 16, 1896, in Lamkin, Texas, where he was raised and received his education. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. In WW I, he went overseas with Company H-36th Division and saw active duty in France. After his discharge, he entered business college in Kansas City, Mo. When he returned from college, he married Ottis Dooley, moving to New Mexico where the couple ranched in the northern part of the state. In 1931, they moved to Carlsbad where he bought and operated the Campbell Grocery and Variety Store for 22 years. He attended the First Christian Church and was a charter member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Ottis O. Campbell, Carlsbad; one daughter, Quata Bryant, Carlsbad; two granddaughters, Janie Glissen, Carlsbad and Susie Chirl, Anchorage, Alaska; and four great-grandchildren.
