He was vice chairman of the New York Public Schools Athletic League, honorary deputy chief of the New York Fire Department, a member of the New York Stock Exchange and director of the New York Cotton Exchange. In 1927, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventieth Congress, serving until 1929. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 66.
